What are the benefits that the Java Programmer and Java Developer certifications bring to me

It had been over 10 years since I got my both my Sun certified Java Programmer and Sun certified Java Developer certifications.

Along my career path, I had met studious individuals who had asked me whether they should pursue the Java Programmer and Developer certifications.

A good way for me to answer their questions will be to reflect on how the Java Programmer and Java Developer certifications had contributed towards my career in software development.

Hence, I write this post to discuss the benefits that my Java Programmer and Java Developer certifications had brought to me.

Giving me the opportunity to understand Java deep enough to the extend of being able to build something substantial

When I got my Java Programmer and Developer certifications, I was still a student with my diploma course.

If I were to just read the computer networking and security topics that my diploma had provided me with, I would never have chances to understand Java to the extend of being able to build something substantial.

By pursuing the Java Programmer certificate, I get good directions to the topics which I should learn in order to understand Java to the extend of using it well. And by pursuing the Java Developer certificate, I got to apply what I had learnt about Java to build a real program.

Acting as strong morale boosters

For me, getting recognition from others contributes a lot to my confidence level. Attaining both certificates were akin to people telling me that I was meant to be in the field of computing, and that with diligence, I could perform in this field.

Sure enough, the concepts that I had learnt in the course of pursuing both certificates made the understanding of tougher computer science topics easier. And being able to understand the various computer science topics had shaped my strong belief that I could build anything that I want, given enough time and resources.

Providing good content for my resume

Ever since I was a fresher, I had seen several job postings that specifically stated that candidates with Java certifications were preferred. With the Java Programmer and Developer certifications, I was able to get into interviews even when I do not have previous work experience. Although I did not get to work with all the companies which I had interviewed with, these interviews had given me precious insights on how people are using technology to solve problems. And of course, the companies that I had managed to get into had given me the opportunities to better my skill set.
